Who we are

Waymaker Resource Group provides adaptable, people-first solutions for complex projects across the U.S. and globally. With a 100% remote workforce based around the Twin Cities, MN, we support maintenance, construction, and infrastructure projects in locations ranging from Colorado and Alaska to the UAE and South Africa. 

Our approach emphasizes community, sustainability, and stewardship, with every service tailored to help clients meet their operational goals with respect and efficiency. As a small, minority-owned, and disadvantaged business, we bring agility and a network of trusted partners to deliver results for government, energy, and commercial sectors.

David Garcia

Founder & CEO

David Garcia’s career path began in the nuclear power industry, where he spent decades working on maintenance and large capital projects before transitioning to nuclear manufacturing design, procurement, and production. These experiences laid the foundation for Waymaker Resource Group’s Integrated Project Delivery model, a next-generation approach to project management that aligns expertise, equipment, and materials to deliver sustainable and reliable outcomes for clients. Under David’s leadership, Waymaker has rapidly expanded into Federal projects supporting national security and cutting-edge energy initiatives like Small Modular and Advanced Reactors, helping to drive energy independence and meet evolving demands.

David’s passion for people is reflected in Waymaker’s culture, which prioritizes creating an environment where team members can thrive both personally and professionally. He takes pride in the company’s ability to build meaningful partnerships that deliver long-term value. Outside of work, David and his wife Theresa enjoy supporting ministries, spending time with their children and grandchildren, and exploring the outdoors in Minnesota through hiking, fishing, and kayaking. In quieter moments, he can often be found learning guitar or enjoying live music at a local brewery with their pup, Scout.

Liz Newberg

Vice President - Strategic Operations

Liz Newberg is the Vice President of Strategic Operations at Waymaker Resource Group, where she combines decades of engineering and leadership experience with a passion for collaborative problem-solving. Starting her career as a system engineer at Monticello Nuclear Plant, she advanced through roles in consulting and project management, contributing to high-profile initiatives like Fukushima response efforts and leadership assessments. Liz later joined Waymaker after a successful collaboration on a remote project for Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. She takes pride in helping WRG grow from single-project execution to managing multiple simultaneous projects, all while fostering the organization’s integrity, communication, and predictability. Outside of work, Liz enjoys gardening, homesteading, and raising her two children on a small farm in Minnesota’s Driftless Region with her partner, Jake.

Ed Fogarty

Vice President - Client Success

Edward Fogarty’s passion for design, engineering, and teamwork began early, growing up on a farm where he developed a fascination for how machines are built and operate. This interest led him to pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree from North Dakota State University, followed by a career in engineering and management within the energy and manufacturing sectors. His journey highlighted the power of collaboration, and the relationships he built with exceptional colleagues became lifelong partnerships. These shared values and goals ultimately led to the founding of Waymaker Resource Group, where Edward continues in the great work of creating a culture of purpose-driven teamwork.

At Waymaker, Edward thrives on the creativity and flexibility to structure project, product, and service offerings to best meet client needs. He is committed to handling every challenge and interaction with grace and agility. Outside of work, Edward enjoys camping, hiking, fishing, skiing, and hunting with his wife Nicole, son Ian, and their goldendoodle, Griffin. He and his family are deeply committed to giving back to their community and supporting the missions of their church and school.

Zach

Zach Garcia

Vice President - Business Development

Zach Garcia is the Vice President of Business Development at Waymaker Resource Group, bringing over a decade of experience managing federal, state, and local government programs with a focus on financial and contract compliance. Since re-entering the federal market as a prime contractor three years ago, Zach has helped expand WRG to hold 12 prime contracts and one large subcontract, supporting agencies such as the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, and the US Army Corps of Engineers. He is particularly proud of creating reliable contract opportunities for over 100 staff members domestically and abroad. Zach’s people-first approach ensures that WRG’s clients and partners feel valued and included, with service and dedication to excellence at the core of every project. Outside of work, Zach enjoys hiking, fishing, and performing in local theater productions in the Twin Cities, where he lives with his wife and two children.

Alex

Alex Machlica

Vice President - Finance

Alex Machlica’s journey to Waymaker Resource Group has been anything but traditional. With a background as a Registered Nurse and orthopedics professional, Alex honed leadership and interpersonal skills while mastering analytical processes. These skills included interpreting complex data sets, identifying trends, and developing strategies to mitigate risk—expertise that now plays a critical role in Waymaker’s financial operations.

At Waymaker, Alex applies those analytical strengths to steward the company’s financial health, overseeing revenue projections, cash flow forecasting, risk management, and areas such as insurance, safety, banking, compliance, benefits, and mergers & acquisitions. Beyond the numbers, Alex takes pride in how Waymaker has preserved its heart through every challenge, staying true to its values during both the sunny and stormy seasons of business.

What sets Waymaker apart for Alex is its unique culture—one of genuine relationships, meaningful connections, and a true spirit of teamwork. It’s a camaraderie that fuels not just internal collaboration but also the quality and efficiency of the work delivered to clients.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys time with his wife and three kids, enjoying activities like playing and watching sports, hiking, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.

John Cantril

Vice President - General Counsel

John Cantril has advised Waymaker Resource Group since 2021, joined the team in 2024 and currently serves as a Vice President and General Counsel on the executive leadership team. John has almost a decade of experience as a legal advisor of small, high-growth businesses as outside corporate counsel assisting with developing entity and enterprise structuring, drafting commercial contracts, creating risk mitigation strategies and building and implementing strategies for growth and scaling.

John has been in private practice for 8 years, including the last 5 as an owner of his firm. He received a Bachelor of Science from Augustana University in Business Administration and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law with concentrations in Business Transactional Law and Labor and Employment Law.  

John’s education along with his experience in managing his own private practice makes him an asset to Waymaker.  He is integral to the management and protection of the business through risk mitigation and developing strategies for the growth of the business.  John drafts contracts that manage exposure and creates an environment of transparency and protection that allows Waymaker and its suppliers and partners to succeed together.

John’s involvement in Waymaker can help reassure both clients and Waymaker’s partners that the business will be protected and continue to scale strategically throughout the duration of their relationship with Waymaker.
